Where has your energy gone?
According to the definition of vital energy, every c1TP1A person is born with a certain amount of energy, which he or she gets from his or her parents. Its main purpose is to sustain our biological existence for as long as possible. This energy is not renewable and is depleted with every day of our lives. We have little influence over its depletion, nor can we stop it, but we can influence its rate of depletion. Working beyond one's strength, in high-stress environments, burning out at work, prolonged untreated illnesses are just a few examples of how, at our own request, we are losing our birth energy faster. To ensure that we have enough energy throughout the day, there is a special energy release mechanism that regularly supplies us with enough energy to last for about 24 hours. This is the so-called daily energy, which, unlike birth energy, can be renewed. Proper energy management so that daily energy expenditure and inflows balance each other out will keep us healthy and in good shape, both physically and mentally. A recent scientific development is the discovery of the sleep chronotype, which is partly genetically determined and indicates the optimum time of activity and sleep during the day for different types of people.
Nowadays, productivity is the key word. The style of work that prevails in organisations largely sabotages employee efficiency. We fall into the trap of believing: the more, the better. The incessant rush, thousands of stimuli reaching our brains every day, many hours spent at work, a poorly composed diet and stress are a simple way to problems with concentration and exhaustion, both physical and mental. One of the mistakes we make is looking for ways, techniques, apps to better manage a resource that is limited - time. In this quest for greater efficiency, productivity or optimisation, we neglect to look for sources to recharge our energy. Another mistake is to focus on only one of them. There are those who advocate a healthy diet but neglect sleep, there are those who advocate exercise but fail to plan their day, yet all these sources need to be taken care of at the same time and we need to discover which ones particularly require our attention at any given time in our lives.
After a hard and stressful day, do you sometimes feel as if someone has sucked all the energy out of you? Or do you get unnerved by any situation that deviates from your routine? When you are feeling well, rested, full and happy - you get an energy kick and realise you are doing many different things. When you are tired, stressed, your mood, energy and motivation levels - drop. You are then able to do much less, and you feel worse: even more exhausted, you feel less and less like doing anything.
